3 Reasons You Should Be Using Your Bathroom as Your Idea Generating Super Space!

I have a confession to make readers…

No, don’t worry, I don’t bring in a laptop to start writing blog posts while sitting on the porcelain throne within the bathroom. However, being that I am a parent to a little one, it seems the only place I can find some peace of mind is within the confines of the bathroom. Whether it is in the morning, afternoon, or night, I find myself slipping away to the bathroom, not necessarily to take care of the call of Mother Nature, but with a tiny notepad or a scrap of paper and pen, in order to jot down the ideas that come to me.

In all honesty, most of my ideas come to me when I find myself lying awake in bed, it’s anywhere between 11 pm and 3 am, and I am unable to sleep, staring at the ceiling as the wheels of mind are churning and generating new ideas and concepts I would like to write about. So, especially for those parents who need time to get away and squeeze out some ideas without being disturbed for 5 to 15 minutes, I suggest going to the bathroom!

My top reasons being:

  1. If people think you are busy doing #2 over #1 you are more likely to get more time. It’s amazing, but thankfully many of us cherish a moment of peace and privacy to do our dirty business. It also buys some time to get some thoughts down on paper, which you can explore later on the computer, after washing your hands of course!
  2. Something about the sterility of boring white walls and tile surrounding me, jolt my mind into a state of awareness to create something to fill up the no-frills atmosphere and feelings of dreaded ennui that colorless joyless utilitarian spaces like tiny bathrooms create in my mind. Uh-oh, please forgive that run-on sentence.
  3. When in the bathroom, I am reminded as I go throughout my day to take a break, stay focused on the present, and enjoy the little moments to “get away.”
